What is Conscious Craft?

Considered. Responsible. Responsive.

As the appreciation for conscious consumerism grows, the way we value craft is transforming. Today, community, ethical sourcing, and environmental impact hold increasing weight in our purchasing decisions. Artisan products crafted locally, with meticulous attention to ethical practices, resonate more than ever, reflecting a growing commitment to civic and social well-being. As a strong advocate in material practice, Craft recognises our unique position and is dedicated to making a real difference in this evolving landscape.

With our new platform, Conscious Craft, we aim to facilitate new dialogues and showcase innovative ideas/outcomes by the growing numbers of makers and designers who are actively considering the impact of their production methods and material use, promoting and prioritising sustainability and ethics.

Our mission is clear: to amplify the voices of Australian makers and designers committed to reimagining their creative processes for a brighter, more sustainable future.

Through Conscious Craft, we are committed to providing a platform to support Australian artists with the resources and guidance needed to embark on transformative innovation journeys. From research and concept development to product realisation and exhibition opportunities, we are dedicated to empowering artists to explore sustainable creativity and innovation. To deepen our impact and connection with the audience, we aim to facilitate meaningful dialogues within the creative community and beyond, fostering connections, sparking ideas, and driving collective action through ongoing public programs and community-targeted initiatives.

We are excited to announce a dynamic program for this year’s launch – featuring 14 Australian makers and designers whose work is reshaping the landscape of material practice.
