Anton Gerner is an award-winning furniture designer/maker based in the Melbourne suburb of East Hawthorn. From a showroom and workshop that was once the local dairy, he creates one-off pieces of furniture for Australian and international clients.
Anton’s interest is in the mastery of combining traditional furniture making techniques with contemporary design, to create pieces that cross between functional furniture, design and sculpture.
His pieces range from modern Art Deco to ultra-contemporary, and aren’t always what they seem: An exposed cabinet with no obvious front, back or sides, a block of Huon pine that is as much a sculpture as a set of drawers, a collection of geometric shapes that function as drawers that also speak to you.
It is Anton’s uncompromising attention to detail and unusual use of timber combinations that sets him apart.
I am obsessed with quality. Nothing leaves my workshop until I am happy with it.
