Arthur Nyakuengama

Arthur Nyakuengama is an artist living and working in Naarm (Melbourne). They completed their Bachelor of Fine Arts and Honours year at the VCA. Their practice is textile and assemblage based, manipulating elements from queer dress into forms which explore and expand upon their origins and functions. Though reforming and recontextualising, their works are experiments in the capacity of materials to communicate identity and desire. Their work has been shown at Project8 Gallery, Craft Victoria and Incinerator Gallery. In 2023 they received the Irene Spilsbury Prize to develop a body of work for Oigåll Project’s 2024 program.
