Billie Civello is a Naarm/Melbourne-based artist and designer whose practice explores the transformation of metal through foundry and fabrication processes. Working primarily with bronze and aluminium, Civello uses sand casting, mould-making and direct manipulation to create sculptural objects, vessels, lighting and furniture.
Their works draw on natural forms, referencing organic structures, growth patterns and the irregularities found in landscapes and biological forms. The casting process becomes a means of translating these references into metal, retaining evidence of heat, pressure, texture and material movement. Civello embraces the unpredictability of the foundry, creating works that sit between functional object, sculpture and natural artefact.
