Christopher Plumridge Claystone Pottery

Christopher Plumridge studied ceramics in Bendigo in the late seventies. His work combines the hands on skills learned and developed over forty years from the traditions of the cultures of Japan, England, China and Australia where his ceramics teachers originated. His commercial work is extensive with functional pieces for restaurant and cafe use to sculptured forms with glazes that have been constantly reformulated over time. His skill set for methods of production include hand building, mould making and clay slip casting and throwing on the potters wheel. His experience and understanding of local clays with local and imported raw minerals make his unique glazes eye catching. He extends his practice regularly exploring new ways of making with experimental glaze surfaces that are uniquely different. His work is influenced by the times in which we live exposing the relevance of ceramics history and its cultural significance as a hand made library.
