Curtis Bloxsidge + 2am Close

Curtis Bloxsidge's practice emerged from a background in cabinet and furniture making, joinery, and set construction, formed by a slow and deliberate development of ideas. Working between traditional handcraft and contemporary processes, he focuses on natural materials to create bold, minimal pieces that are grounded, quiet, and enduring.

Raised in Western Australia and now living and working on Wurundjeri land (Naarm/Melbourne), Bloxsidge's work is informed by personal and sentimental histories. Working predominantly with jarrah (a timber native to his birth area), it becomes a conduit for memories, which carries a strong but intimate presence through its weight, warmth, and grain. Each piece is approached not just as an object but also as a character, shaped by restraint, proportion, and touch. His designs draw subtle references from the natural world and classical furniture archetypes, distilled into reduced forms that feel both familiar and considered with emphasis placed on material honesty, surface, and shadow.

2am CLOSE

2am close is the material practice of Taylor Brooks, a practitioner based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her work centres on making as a mode of thinking, feeling, and relating, exploring principles of embodiment, gesture and how objects negotiate between interior and exterior worlds. Drawing on backgrounds in fashion and industrial design, Taylor’s practice moves between analogue and digital processes to investigate how contemporary manufacturing technologies might preserve, rather than diminish, the emotional and tactile qualities embedded within acts of making. Objects emerge through an ongoing dialogue between phenomenology, material experimentation and craft practice. Working predominantly with cast metals, alongside textiles, timber and knitwear, her practice invites slower meditative forms of participation.
