Felicity Jane Large is an art jeweller working from her cosy studio in Melbourne/Naarm.
Felicity's journey began with studying Fine Arts at Monash University, majoring in Metals and Jewellery. Keen to expand on her technical skills, she followed this up with the Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology: Jewellery at NMIT (now Melbourne Polytechnic). Subsequent study and mentoring in the areas of traditional goldsmithing and gem setting have allowed Felicity to continue her commitment to completing every stage of the making herself, while adding new methods and techniques with which to bring her visions to life.
Felicity’s pieces all start out as a sheet of metal or a length of wire. Each element is cut, forged into the desired shape, then soldered together to create the finished piece. In addition to lending the pieces great durability, this process of working hands-on with the materials allows for exploration, mistakes and tangents, all of which lead to new ideas.
Current works feature precious metals such as gold and silver alongside more colourful materials, including titanium, niobium and gems. Bold geometric lines and vibrant colours combine to create pieces which speak of empowerment, optimism, and above all, fun!
