Heather Lee

Lee’s artistic practice is rooted in a diverse material language, primarily reimagined into woven wearable forms. Grounded in traditional handcrafted techniques of basketry, she engages with textural complexity and structural abstraction, guided by the agency of materials and spontaneous gesture.

Drawing from her East-Asian heritage, Lee’s work explores cultural storytelling through the transcendence across temporal boundaries. In navigating presence, absence and intersecting realities, Lee conjures a ritual space of quiet escapism, echoing the subtle nuances of diasporic existence. Inspired by movement-based performance, Lee creates refined silhouettes shifting between bodily adornment and sculptural autonomy, exploring the dynamic relationship between tactile connection and stillness.

Through a heightened sensitivity to rhythm, movement and spatial configurations, Lee blurs the boundaries between being and void, inviting contemplative reflection on materiality, memory, and embodiment.
