Jody Loaring Loarings

Jody Loaring is a multidisciplinary Australian visual artist and educator whose award-winning sculptural practice draws on found natural materials, family history and regional archives to explore memory, place and identity. Since the early 1990s, she has worked as a sculptor and textile-informed maker, creating coiled, woven and mixed media forms that repurpose shoreline and landscape materials into evocative installations and objects.

Her work interrogates origins, home, trauma and spirit, and has been exhibited across Western Australia and internationally, including selection for the Homo Faber 2024 Craft Biennale in Venice and recent textile exhibitions in Italy. In 2024 Loaring was recognised as a Master Artisan by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship.

Based in Broome, her work is held in public and private collections. As an advanced industry TAFE lecturer, Loaring blends professional art with teaching and community engagement, fostering a locally-rooted, internationally-engaged practice.

I weave memory, family and shoreline into sculptural forms, where gathered materials embody arrival, loss and layered histories.
