Julienne Lewis is a ceramic artist whose work has a timeless, fossil-like quality, giving the impression of having been found rather than created. Her art responds powerfully to human experience, aiming to elicit an emotional reaction from the viewer. The hand-built sculptural vessels she creates are surprisingly light, embodying both fragility and strength. Through carving, layered slips and multiple firings, she explores the link between culture and landscape which deeply influences her approach to colour, form and texture. Refining her artistic expression over decades, eventually culminated in formal, life-changing ceramics training at SOCA.
'In such ugly times, the only true protest is beauty.'
