Katrina Carling Unearthed Ceramics

Katrina studied a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Indigenous Studies at La Trobe University, followed by further study in Interior Decoration and Design at RMIT University. She subsequently ran her own interior design practice for fifteen years, developing a strong understanding of form, materiality, and the relationship between objects and the spaces they inhabit.

Raised on an orchard in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley and later along the banks of the Murray River, her early experiences of landscape, water, and seasonal rhythms continue to inform her connection to material and place.

Katrina began working in ceramics in 2014, developing a practice centred on thoughtful, functional wares. Her work has appeared in a range of retail contexts and includes the creation of two ceramic series accompanying exhibitions at the National Gallery of Australia.

She now works full-time from her garden studio in Preston, Melbourne, producing small-batch ceramics sold through select retail spaces and her online
