Melbourne-based ceramicist Katrina Carling has been developing her pottery practice since 2014. Originally an Interior Decorator, Katrina has blended her knowledge for creating thoughtful and contemporary interior design, with bespoke handmade ceramics.
Katrina makes her ceramics in her garden studio in Preston. Hand-thrown on the potters wheel, all her work is fired on site. Glazes are created in-situe and every effort is made to reduce Unearthed’s carbon footprint. Katrina makes a range of functional domestic wares for every day use. She also offers a range of ceramic wallhangings that use local flora and textiles in their production. These hangings can be made in collaboration with individual clients to create unique and personal works.
Unearthed Ceramics have been represented in several collaborative group shows, and is available through the National Gallery of Australia, selective stockists and via the website.
Making Ceramics is a life lesson in patience, presence and practice…if you can achieve all three, then the ideas are endless and making work that people love and use in their daily lives is a joy.
