Lilach Mileikowski

Lilach Mileikowski creates sculptural works that combine potency and delicacy through the multifaceted use of clay, glaze, fabric, wire, and printed scripts. Informed by her cultural background, her work reflects both personal and global significance, echoing the primal human need for connection and belonging.

As in nature, her forms repeat; she joins multiples into one whole, where each element balances the other, resulting in works that are simultaneously precarious and resilient—a metaphor for the migrant experience.

Originally from Israel, Lilach brings a background in graphic design to her practice, holding a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication. After migrating to Melbourne in 1995, she completed a Diploma of Arts Ceramics, followed by an Advanced Diploma of Creative Product Development. In 2016, she was awarded a Master of Fine Art at RMIT University, her research focusing on the spiritual and political concerns of identity, exploring the dual notions of fragility and strength.

Lilach’s work is held in private and institutional collections and has featured in major exhibitions including the International Ceramics Festival (Japan), Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award, Victorian Ceramic Art Award, and Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize.

Recent highlights include her solo exhibition SUSTENANCE at Glen Eira Council Gallery, VIC; finalist in HELD by the Australian Ceramics Association; inclusion in Fables & Folklore at Craft Victoria; and winner of both the 2024 Yarra Valley Arts Sculpture Award, Yering Station, VIC, and the 2024 Rainford Family Award, North QLD Ceramic Awards.

My practice is slow and layered, a continual dialogue with form. It reimagines artefacts’ traces through a contemporary lens, capturing a still moment between the perishable and the permanent.
