Marta Figueiredo, an Australian-Portuguese architect and multidisciplinary artist who infuses storytelling and playfulness into her joyful, sensory artworks.
River of Mists and Shadows is an immersive installation inspired by the nearby Birrarung (Yarra River). Figueiredo invites us into a colourful and imaginary multiverse, mirroring the water’s reflection across the ceiling of the Home Docklands Lobby. Two large sculptural pendants are inspired by the shadows and silhouettes of eucalyptus trees and incorporate a contemporary take on traditional filigree from the artist’s heritage. Mist-like, semi-translucent fabrics drape through the space, resembling the colours of the sky at dawn and dusk. Encouraging a moment for reflection, the accompanying soundscape brings the river to life – imagining a reality of untouched wetlands, abundant with life and vitality.

Working with Craft on this project was a very rewarding experience. As art curators, they were not only incredibly supportive but also deeply aligned with my vision, offering valuable guidance through the specific challenges and requirements of the Home Docklands project.
