Pip Byrne is a Melbourne based ceramic artist and landscape architect. With an interest in scale, playfulness, form and texture, she uses ceramics to capture moments of simplicity and scenes of light and play. Pip uses various hand-building techniques to create pieces that aren’t limited by traditional forms and ideas. She explores ways of using clay to tell different tales of its contrasts - strength/delicacy, grounding/lightness, fluidity/rigidity.
While her background in Landscape Architecture requires an understanding of how we interact with the space around us, it’s the process of creating with clay that allows a wandering of the space within – it’s the combination of the two that fascinates her, our outer and inner worlds.

I’m interested in trying to create movement within the fired pieces, whether they evoke a sense of movement or can actually move and adapt fluidly.
