Ruo Qiong Zhang

Ruo Qiong Zhang is an emerging artist working primarily with glass, building a practice that explores the intersection of material behavior and experiential design. She strives to spark perceptual curiosity by making the familiar unfamiliar.

Born in China, came of age in the US and now based in narrm (Melbourne, Australia), she became increasingly sensitive to how atmosphere is shaped by light and physical materials through her past work as a filmmaker and a DJ.

This growing curiosity led her to complete a Diploma of Visual Arts Glasswork (Melbourne Polytechnic) in 2025. Since cutting her first piece of float glass just a year ago, Ruo has worked with the medium in a process-driven approach, discovering ways of creating through closely observing the characteristics of glass under different temperatures and against other materials.
