Shelley Simpson is the founder and creative director behind Mud Australia. Since establishing the brand in Sydney in 1994, Shelley has personally developed every design, growing the business from a small studio garage into a globally recognised brand spanning 14 stores across Australia, New York, Los Angeles and London.
Driven by Shelley’s creative vision and thoughtful approach to craft, Mud Australia has become an Australian design icon known for its handmade porcelain, refined forms and enduring use of colour. Today, the business is supported by a team of more than 110 people, with all production continuing from Mud Australia’s studio in Sydney.
Reflecting Shelley’s ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of ceramicists and craftspeople, the Shelley Simpson Ceramics Prize, now presented in partnership with Craft Victoria, champions emerging talent within the Australian ceramics community.
