Creative Ballarat in partnership with Craft presents From the Ground Up: a masterclass with ceramicist Damon Moon.

The Ballarat Ceramic Heart Masterclass Series is your chance to watch, listen and learn from five different deeply experienced practitioners as they demonstrate and explain their personal techniques and reveal a few secrets of their practice. Designed for the interested ceramicist, practising artists as well as the casual observer, the Masterclass Series will stretch your imagination and challenge your thinking.

The fifth masterclass in the series, spend a day with Damon Moon and develop an understanding of clays, glaze materials and production techniques 'from the ground up' - including how to gather and process ‘wild materials’.

Damon Moon is a second-generation potter whose practice spans art and industry. He has a PhD in art history and is one of Australia’s most prolific commentators on ceramics. Recently, Damon has held solo exhibitions at major regional Victorian galleries including Shepparton Art Museum, Bendigo Art Gallery, LaTrobe Art Institute and Castlemaine Art Museum.

He was Creative Director of the JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design ceramics studio (2014 - 2018), SA, and recently worked with Bendigo Pottery in R&D and establishing teaching programs (2019 - 2020).

Please note that due to OHS requirements, all attendees are required to wear closed toe shoes for the duration of the workshop.

Each Masterclass is a full-day experience based in the Ceramic Studio of Federation University’s SMB Campus. Held on Saturdays, students will enjoy an intimate class environment with hands-on opportunities and demonstrations of specific techniques. There is ample time to ask questions, get involved and interrogate the artist’s techniques.
