Craft Contemporary is our annual festival amplifying craft across all aspects of contemporary life throughout the month of October. The festival presents a dynamic calendar of public events, projects, and exhibitions.

The month-long festival calls attention to the ubiquitous and engaging presence of craft—bringing together practitioners, educators, industry and craft lovers to explore craft as it is today.

We are now calling for submissions for the following programs:

Satellite Program
Makers in Residence
Virtual Open Studios

Submissions close Monday 27 June 2022
Applicants will be notified by Friday 8 July 2022

Satellite Program

The Craft Contemporary Satellite Program presents a vibrant program of events, exhibitions and public projects exploring craft practice beyond the confines of the studio. The program will showcase contemporary expressions of craft practice across retail, exhibition, educational and public spaces and audiences throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Makers in Residence

As part of Craft Contemporary, we are offering a Makers in Residence program to represent the diverse realities of what it means to make by hand. Based in artists’ own studios, the series of six residencies will provide a platform for makers to share insights into their practice and allow audiences to follow a creative process from beginning to end.

Virtual Open Studios

The Craft Contemporary Virtual Open Studios will display the creative working spaces and talents of some of Australia's most exciting craft artists and makers. Presented across two live Zoom webinars, eight artists will invite Craft Victoria's online audience into their studios to share their creative practice with the community.
