Get ready - our annual festival Craft Contemporary returns this October for another month-long celebration of craft. We invite you to join the festivities and be part of a program driven by new ideas and contemporary approaches to material practice.

The Craft Contemporary Satellite Program will present a curated selection of third-party organised events exploring craft practice in and beyond the confines of the studio. We are calling for proposals to present the ambition of craft-practice today and invite the use of iconic and unconventional spaces that showcase the diversity of the handmade.

The Craft Contemporary Satellite Program invites our audiences to your spaces by promoting your events and projects as part of the official festival program. Joining the Satellite Program also welcomes you into Craft’s creative community, providing opportunities to build and strengthen networks and connections.

We welcome expressions of interest from cutting-edge makers, designers, educators, curators, thinkers, writers, collectives, organisations with exciting and bold ideas that connect audiences to craft’s unique ability to share stories.

Let’s bring a new energy to contemporary craft together.

Successful applications will:

  • Engage with craft as a skilled practice whether using ceramics, glass, textiles, wood, metal, fibre or other materials;
  • Consider craft as a medium for investigating ideas in engaging ways;
  • Highlight contemporary applications of, and departures from, traditional craft materials and techniques; and/or
  • Examine new perspectives to craft practice.

Projects will need to occur at least partially between 1-31 October 2023 to be considered for the program.

Submissions close: 11:59pm Monday 5 June 2023
Applicants will be notified by: Monday 26 June 2023
