Dust, smoke, ash and bone were each integral elements of an extensive 18 month collaboration between Vanessa Lucas, Emma Jimson and chef Annie Smithers of duFermier.

Forms firmly grounded in function were at the heart of the creative dialogue, with the theme of bone to honour the proteins sourced for the restaurant informing both the design of the serving ware and the materials used to create the pieces. The objects were infused with the development of a porcelain casting body and glaze exploring the use and incorporation of waste materials from duFermier.

The collaborative works were recently exhibited at Manly Art Gallery in Sydney. With conceptual and physical parameters now removed, the evolving body of work continues as both artists explore the resonance of ceramic objects and the surface of the table.
