Elevating the everyday experience of opening doors and crossing thresholds in a new exhibition of symbolic entry ways and beautifully crafted door furniture. Open Door includes contemporary door-furniture by artists and makers in a variety of media, considering how this aspect of the built environment is beautiful, as well as useful, in Australian life.

Open Door is the culmination of a project to expand opportunities for contemporary craftspeople and designers, bringing their invention and expertise to new areas of practice.

Among the exquisite objects on display are door handles made of lava from Auckland’s Rangitoto volcano by New Zealand artist Warwick Freeman; contemporary Dvarapala (door guardians) by Melbourne-based Thai ceramic artist Vipoo Srivilasa; and door pulls by South Australian glass artist Kristel Britcher, inspired by Czech-cut glass of the past.
