Artbank partners with the Australian Tapestry Workshop (ATW) to present Weaving Together – Tapestries from the Artbank Collection, an exhibition which celebrates the significant holdings of tapestries in the Artbank Collection, which date back to the 1980’s. The tapestries are contextualised alongside preparatory studies, paintings, prints, pastels, and watercolours by each respective artist, and include a display of artworks by artists in the Artbank Collection who have participated in the ATW’s prestigious artist in residence program - situating Artbank’s commitment to supporting Australian contemporary art and artists from its inception through to today.
Artbank and ATW were both well established by the early 1980s, with Artbank actively collecting a number of significant tapestries by contemporary Australian artists created through the ATW, which are available to the Australian public through our leasing program. Weaving Together entwines the ATW’s rich history as a not-for-profit visual arts organisation, which empowers creative partnerships and Artbank's continuous support and promotion of Australian artists as a federal government program.
The exhibition runs from 2 October 2023.
