As individual craft practitioners, Kari Layton and Alexander Brown engage in process's anchored in material exploration via the intuitive production of abstract form. This shared framework of process ultimately led to a collaborative project in which the parameters of retail presentation are expanded, and a clear lineage is defined between abstract object, context and product.
Through both the Makers in Residence program and the Satellite Program It is our intention to communicate the story behind our outcomes through a demonstration of process within the newly completed Lott Studio showroom - the final product of our collaborative project. Our Satellite Program will see Alexander Brown constructing three variations of the display objects utilised in the showroom which are a fundamental element to the overall project. Simultaneously Kari Layton will execute a static installation that explodes one of her jewellery works and demonstrates her order of process and assembly. To support these installations, a projection piece highlighting a photographic and moving image exploration of our applied formulaic process's will be on loop in the showrooms window. Our Makers in Residence program will support this by offering raw footage of process and vocal explanations of various stages of making.
It is hoped that by engaging our audience in these modes of demonstration, we will effectively communicate our shared intuitive approach to our respective practises and how this approach delivered our project.
