Arachni is a talented weaver in Ancient Greek mythology that competes with the goddess Athena in weaving and beats her. Athena, embarrassed and ashamed by Arachni, cursed her to be an insect for eternity, to make her artwork only to be destroyed.

As a child, Christina Darras felt that the punishment was cruel. She admired Arachni's resilience in restarting every time her artwork was destroyed. As artists, we have highs and lows and may do our best or worse work. But our resilience defines our profound belief that artists belong to the artwork much more than the artwork belongs to them. Darras is making a web from leftovers of wool and installing it at the wooden stairs of Kingston Arts premises. The old building is a heritage building and the centre of Kingston Arts, hosting two Gallery spaces, a ceramics studio, four artists' studios and a chamber for workshops and talks.

Darras will give an artist talk focused on the creative power of failure and a workshop on the imaginative use of crochet.
