PRESS PLAY > is a two-day workshop that explores tactile approaches to mould-making, translating textures from the surrounding environment into functional or sculptural ceramic objects. Participants will actively gain an understanding of the materials and processes involved in the making of a one-piece mould for slip-casting and learn about press-moulds made by casting found objects and textures.

Workshop presenters Lucy Tolan and Sachiko Mardon will also demonstrate how moulds are used in their own practice. Lucy collects and creates repetitive textures using natural objects and plaster moulds, and hand builds her work using a combination of pinch and slab building techniques. Sachiko employs both press and slip moulds to explore ideas that gently erode the repetitive nature of cast objects and amplify traces of the making process.
