Sunshine Art Spaces Gallery presents Repeat a Calming Action, an exhibition by Melbourne artist Jessie McClure.
Inspired by traditional quilting techniques and Geometric Abstraction, Jessie creates delicate patchworks which sit between painting and sewing. Constructed from repurposed and plant-dyed fabrics, the works evoke a sense of peace and stillness.
In this exhibition, the artist explores repetitive making processes as a form of meditation and reflects on the power of craft to influence well-being. The artist embraces time-consuming processes to call into question current ideas of labour and value.
Stitch by stitch and row by row, Repeat a Calming Action invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and be soothed by gentle geometries.
Alongside the exhibition, the artist will be hosting an informal patchworking workshop. Taking place in Jessie's studio, the workshop will be a chance for sewers of all abilities to learn different techniques for patchworking with found fabrics.
