Home Docklands Artwork Curation

Project Type: Consulting, Curation, Commissioning

Craft was engaged by Home over a two-year period to curate and project manage the development and delivery of a bold and ambitious collection of artworks for the new Home Docklands. Underpinned by the themes of Renewal and Discovery and Water Rhythms, the collection draws connections between the nearby Birrarung Marr, Latrobe Street and Marvel Stadium through creative and innovative responses to site.

In total 14 contemporary Australian artists are represented across the public-facing and interior spaces, including four large-scale site-specific public art commissions, a significant internal commission and a contemporary art collection. Enhancing the architecture and local surroundings, Craft’s curation fosters deeper connections and conversations and supports creative and imaginative placemaking.

Docklands is one of Australia's largest urban renewal projects, and with support from City of Melbourne and Development Victoria, this major commission champions Craft's world-leading expertise in supporting Australian art, craft and design production, and the vital role of art in building vibrant places to live.

Supporting local artists allows for more diverse voices and perspectives to be seen and heard. Additionally, this kind of support helps sustain the careers of artists, enabling them to continue creating meaningful work that resonates with the local audience.
