Katherine Hubble

Katherine Hubble is an early career art jeweller based in Melbourne. Working from her home studio, Katherine’s practice explores new ways of looking at traditional forms, creating wearable pieces with contemporary plastics, industrial processes combined with traditional gold and silver smithing techniques – and a particular fascination with shells.

Katherine recently exhibited her work in Craft’s main gallery exhibition PET SHOP, where she created a series of iridescent ultraviolet lights inspired by hermit crab habitats and fish aquariums.

Katherine was a finalist in Fresh! 2017, Craft’s annual exhibition and awards celebrating the latest talent in Victorian tertiary craft and design graduates.

“Being able to exhibit at Craft has benefited my practice in terms of showcasing my work, so people are able to see my work and feel inspired by my work and having it included in the community as well. It's a great outcome for art when other people can see it and have their own reading of it."

"I feel like Craft is quite encouraging of experimentation within your practice. It's not trying to put you in a box of, oh, you make jewellery, where's the silver chain? It really is trying to push you in your practice in what you enjoy making, but then in more of a broad craft object context as well.”
