Join Craft for exclusive Craft Contemporary studio visits across two Saturday afternoons in October.
Meridian Sculpture
Saturday October 14, 1-2pm
Tour the Meridian Sculpture fine art foundry in Fitzroy and glance behind the scenes at the facilities and processes that make bronze sculpture production possible. The Meridian team will guide the group through the art of lost-wax casting, including the processes of wax modelling, moulding and investment, casting, and finishing. This insight will give you a glimpse into the traditional techniques that have been developed over centuries of craftspersonship. At the end of the foundry tour, a member of their team will do a short demonstration, applying a patina to a bronze work.
Ruth Allen Glass
Saturday October 21, 2-3pm
Explore Ruth Allen's 430msq Coburg North ceramic and hot glass studio. The program will start with a talk, giving background and insight to Ruth's experience as a glass maker and her journey to managing a business as well as her artistic practice. This will be followed with a tour of the studio and equipment, before Ruth and her team demonstrate the production of one of her coloured punch bowls.
The Craft Contemporary Open Studios are free, however as group sizes are limited, registrations are essential.
