Launched in 2020, The First Peoples-led Program is a Craft initiative to create nationally recognised curatorial pathways and shift representation in the creative sector.
Each year, Craft engages a First Peoples curator to present an exhibition and public program in the Main Gallery, selected via a First Peoples advisory panel. Craft provides the curator with exhibition resources, mentoring and professional development to help realise their vision.
The program has grown to have national reach, now with capacity to invite artists from remote communities. New impact-led initiatives include First Peoples only programs and engagement with local First Peoples-owned businesses.
The exhibition is presented annually as part of NAIDOC Week.
